La Paz to Mainland Update!

I just posted 2 new videos below which updates the trip up to La Paz.....

La Paz turned out to be a touring cyclist mecca that week. Not only did I meet back up with Ken & Eva but we all ran into 3 other cyclists a day out of La Paz: Christine from Vermont, Niko from Germany, and Hippolyite from France (I introduced them in the part 2 video below). We all scattered once we got to La Paz and stayed at different places. I stayed with my brother Sunny at a small hotel where we got a special deal.. He had been waiting for us there already.

Some of the crew was staying at the backpacker's hostel, and since it was situated right in the middle of town it sort of became our group meet up spot. To our surprise 2 additional touring cyclists showed up to the hostel the day we were waiting for the ferry: Kai from Germany, and Hiro from Japan. Kai is a cycle messenger who is participating in the annual Cycle Messenger World Championships in Mexico City. Check out their site: The Cycle Messenger World Championship 2014, and Hiro is a world touring cyclist who has already crossed Asia and Europe! From China to Portugal..

All in all there were 9 touring cyclists from all around the world in town. Eva had made some connections at the Marina and secured a free boat ride to the mainland with 2 additional spots. Niko and Christine agreed to go with her, and the rest of us took the ferry. We had quite a crew: A Frenchman (Hippolyite), a German (Kai), a Japanese (Hiro), a Texan/Mexican (Ken), two Brazilian/English/Americans (Me and Sunny), and a Korean/American hitchhiker (Jae) who we made friends with at the hostel as well.

These are some photos of our ferry ride:

Hippo, Ken, Sunny, and I are currently in Tepic at a very nice warm showers house. Thank you Gabriella and Pablo for hosting us! Kai is already on his way to the CMWC championship, Hiro is somewhere ahead of us, Eva, Niko & Christine have just arrived in Mazatlan. Ken and Hippo may go straight to Guadalajara from here, Sunny and I will be going to Sayulita to see some nice beaches. We will await Eva, Niko, & Christine there. I have to start shooting more here on the mainland... It's a fine balance, sometimes I just have to experience things without the electronics in the way.. Anyways Paz e amor! Till next time.

Week 5: Pedale El Globo

Week 5: El Rosario - Santa Rosalia (The Desert to the Sea of Cortez)

More recent updates:

- We've been on the Sea of Cortez side for about a week at this point. It has been by far the most beautiful part of the peninsula.

- Santa Rosalia is a great little town that was colonized by the French. Gustave Eiffel who designed the Eiffel tower designed the church in the town. We spent the night at the bombero station, and hung out with them all night.

- In Mulege we spent a couple days at the house of Bill Enos. A couch surfing host who migrated there from the US about 15 years ago. He's an upbeat guy who could easily be our grandpa.  It was quite an experience and nice to have a comfortable house for a bit. He makes his own wine, and has barrels of it stashed in his house. It was a good time.

- Leaving Mulege me and Sunny got into an altercation. We decided to take some space from each other for a bit. So for the two days in Bahia Concepcion (the nicest stretch of paradise beaches) we split up and took some time apart.

- Sunny ended up hitching a ride to Loreto with a Christian Trucker. Apparently the trucker felt that my brother needed to be 'reborn' into the christian faith, and he set Sunny up with his pastor who's been in contact with him ever since.

- Eva, Ken, and I rode from Bahia Concepcion to Loreto yesterday. I must admit that for me it was one of the toughest rides I've had. Roughly 65 miles of ups and downs in the blistering heat. My waters were all hot and provided 0 refreshment. I was feeling down because I was upset that me and my bro missed out on enjoying the paradise together. Eva and Ken were affected a bit by me being down, and the altercations between me and Sunny. It was the first time I've felt disoriented and unsure about how the trip is going to turn out.

- Arriving in Loreto we met Sunny who's being hosted at the truckers christian friends house who happens to be a female guard at the Loreto prison. We all met at a coffee shop, where we were also awaiting our couch surfing host, Vanessa. Vanessa showed up, and we all biked behind her to her house. She happens to live a block from where Sunny is staying.

- Me and Sunny took a long walk last night around town where we both talked about our current sentiments regarding the trip and our relationship. It was good to clear up the air, and make peace. I told him that I'd feel better if he would ride with us again. He wants to continue on his own for the next few days, and meet up in the next towns. He says that he is enjoying the freedom, and challenges of riding solo. He wants to learn the ropes on his own and not feel like he's just riding on my coattails. I can understand that, especially since, when I was angry, I ragged on him about never doing this sort of trip before, and not knowing what he's doing. It's not the way I'd like it to be but I have to respect his decision.

- Things are a little shaky with 'La Bomba Diggidade' (the bomb diggity) right now. I know that Eva is affected by the altercations between me and Sunny. I blew up, and was a large part of the split, since then I've regretted it, and I think she's losing a bit of patience with the instability of the group. Ken has been the most level headed in the group I'd say. I think he was just happy to have met up with a group of other cyclists going the same direction as him, and now it seems that the group is in danger of falling apart. He's been the main proponent trying to keep things together in a subtle way. I do not know how things are going to turn out.

- My plan is to continue with the trip I started on. I'm going south, and my destination is Central America. I plan on spending time there at a sustainable community known as the rainbow crystal land:

Rainbow site . I'd like to base myself there, and learn about permaculture, growing food, bio-construction, how live in a money free community, and live off the land.. But that's all in the future.. There's a lot of Mexico left, and baja for that matter. Ideally me and Sunny will reconnect, and we'll make the peace with Eva so that we can all pursue our dreams for this trip, and help propel each other forward. Nothing is perfect, and maybe this will be for the good of us all. Growth through fire is the quickest way I know, but it doesn't always feel good. Let's hope thats what this turns out to be. Anyways, paz e amor. Catch up with ya'll soon!
